Going to the Movies on Valentine's Day

I know this is going to make me look bad, but what can I say?

My most memorable Valentine’s Day movie-going memory occurred in 1994. It was bitterly cold that Feb. 14, and I had no plans for the evening. Still, I was very restless, and despite the Arctic-like temperature outside, this Charles Bronson fan decided to go to the movies that night.

I went to the somewhat decrepit Villard Theater in Villa Park, IL to see “Death Wish V.” I thought for sure I would be the only one there. But I was wrong.

Inside were about a dozen people, all guys, all by themselves.

As we were leaving, nobody spoke, looked, or acknowledged each other in any way whatsoever.

BTW, I thoroughly enjoyed “Death Wish V.”

Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!

Oh my God, that was funny. Sounds like some of my more memorable Valentine's Days.

I can make myself look worse...sort of...by saying that in 1991 I broke up with my boyfriend on Valentine's Day over the phone. I was later told that he was holding a dozen yellow roses (my favorite) at the time. Distraught, he went to a late showing of King Ralph with his loser friends. LOL!

Totally amazing blog you have here, truly wondrous. You should add a few social media buttons to help spread the word? I'd definitely give a "like" to plug it to my friends.

Trevor, thanks so much for your incredibly kind words. I did have some social media buttons up there at one time, but they seem to have disappeared, and I'm not sure why since I didn't do anything to make them go away. I need to put them in again. I've been meaning to do that for awhile. Thanks for the reminder.

Kim and Dave, sounds like I'm in good company wit the two of you.

Likely the only time "Death Wish V" will be mentioned in a post by a Classic Movie Bloggers Association writer.

Perhaps one day I will write about an unforgettable viewing of the truly wretched "Almost Heroes" (1998) starring Matthew Perry and Chris Farley. You may not believe it, but it really happened.

Sorry I'm late with my comment, Kevin. Ah, Valentine's Day and Charles Bronson -- the perfect pair! Loved it!

Kevin,
I love your honesty here and that you shared this VDay memory with us!

When I worked evenings I used to go to the movies a lot during the day alone. I actually prefer that since you don't have to wait on everyone else's schedules to match up then there's everyone having to agree on what to go see.

I'm would have been impressed if even one guy would have talked his date into seeing Death Wish.

Have a great weekend!
